Writing Your Online
Home Based Business Plan

A business plan for a small web business is usually much less detailed than one for an enterprise requiring bank financing.

If you are planning a larger venture you should probably follow SBA guidelines or purchase software to assist you in preparing your plan.

We are concentrating on the SSB (small-small business) throughout this website. If you are a first-time entrepreneur it is highly recommended you stick with the SSB concept for your first Internet venture.

As a one-person entrepreneur you will usually write out a brief summary of only a few pages.

Business Description

You should have a description of your business, your marketing plans, and financial information. What are your goals and objectives?

Will you have a store, a content site or an affiliate site?

Your Niche

How will you choose your niche? How will you do your keyword research? What are your interests, your hobbies, your passion?

Products or Services

Are you going to sell a product (physical or digital), a service or a content site monetized with Adsense? What are the benefits of your product or service?

Market Research

Is there a market for your product or service? Who is your ideal customer?

Who are your competitors? How many are there? How will you be different (unique)?

Marketing

How are you going to promote your online business? Will you use article marketing, audio, video, newsletter ads, other paid advertising, or other methods?

Management

Do you have the management skills and discipline to run you web business?

You will probably not be able to finalize your plans until you complete your keyword and competition research, then select your niche.

It is often better to choose your niche before selecting your product or service to sell. If you already have strong skills in one area of interest, this may guide your research toward a niche where your skills will be most beneficial.

How you position yourself in your market will be largely guided by your keyword and market research.
