eCommerce, affiliate marketing, bum marketing, infopreneur, all have been suggested as the best Internet business to start. It depends on which Internet marketer you ask.
eCommerce
The sale of hard goods or downloadable digital goods (egoods) online.

What will this year bring during this economic crisis.
Many online marketers, including myself, predict no slowdown in internet commerce. My own sales have continued to increase each month since the economic slowdown began.
Consumers seem to be turning to the internet for lower prices and savings in transportation costs. You don't have to spend gas money to shop online.
Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate marketing is actually a subset of eCommerce. Affiliate marketing is the reselling of merchants products, either hard goods or digital goods.

While search engines, e-mail, and website syndication capture much of the attention of online retailers, affiliate marketing carries a much lower profile. An affiliate merchant may have 1000's of affiliates promoting their products but only pay commissions when the affiliate makes a sale.
"Amazon.com (Amazon) launched its associate program in July 1996. Amazon associates could place banner or text links on their site for individual books, or link directly to the Amazon home page.
When visitors clicked from the associate's website through to Amazon and purchased a book, the associate received a commission. Amazon was not the first merchant to offer an affiliate program, but its program was the first to become widely-known and serve as a model for subsequent programs."

Amazon has since expanded its product offerings to include a wide variety of product, becoming a virtual department store.
Bum Marketing
Bum marketing is the use of free resources, mostly article marketing, to promote affiliate products or the marketers own products.
If you have absolutely no money to invest in your business this may be your best internet business to start.
- Find low competition keyword phrases in one niche
- Write several keyword optimized articles for each phrase.
- Provide a link to an affiliate program with a complimentary product at the end of each article
- Submit to popular article directories
- Write and submit more articles
- Repeat with other niches.

Infopreneur
A pure infopreneur doesn't sell anything, only provides information online. Everyone knows something. You can share your knowledge with others online.
Many infopreneurs make a healthy income when they mix in affiliate marketing and/or advertising sales, or by selling their knowledge through mediums such as e-books and recordings.
"The classification of infopreneur has created a new style of business on the Internet, which allows anybody with a computer and an Internet connection to start a businesses by publishing information that may appeal to a specific market.
There are generally two kinds of infopreneurs: those that sell information they have amassed on their own and those that earn commissions from selling information that they know nothing about. The latter may be considered more of a 'information trafficker'."
